Anticipatory Guidance: Bright Futures Parent Handout: First Week Visit (3 to 5 Days)
The adjustment to parenthood takes a while to settle into a rhythm. At this point, you and the baby are still getting to know one another!
In this visit, you can expect us to:
- Check your baby’s weight
- Discuss feeding goals and see how your baby is feeding
- Physical examination
- Screenings
- EPDS- Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale- used to assess postpartum depression in mothers
- Newborn Metabolic Screen #2- his involves poking your baby's heel to get a few drops of blood.

Now you and your little one are more in sync! Hopefully, you have learned how to live with interrupted sleep, and you are packing away those newborn clothes.
